The Brow Horn Orchestra EP Launch

With rumours of being sold out leading up to doors being opened, there was a certain feeling that this was going to be a good night.

Meanwhile inside a crowd gathered to witness a fairly new local act “Mulder”. Catchy hooks, simple melodies and inspiring vocals led the crowd to grow even more.

Outside The Stoops took the stage, pretty quickly the crowd were getting near capacity and the words “sold-out” went from rumour to reality. Featuring Gestures and Georgi Kay, The Stoops continued to work a pretty responsive crowd and their ‘Kay featured hit “Free” was a highlight.

As the Stoops left the stage, Fat Shans own Sam Perry graced the indoor arena. Smashing into Halo, Perry hit some technical difficulties but recovered well, welcoming the Brow Horn Orchestra onto stage for a mid-set freestyle. Brow’s Alex Vaughan (aka ReZide) laid down some cheeky rhymes and gave the crowd a taste of what to expect from the finale. Brow left the stage for Sam to get in another couple of tracks to an ever-appreciative crowd.

After missing out on seeing Carl Fox at Rottofest I was keen to see the full band together for the Brow Launch and they did not disappoint. With a fairly unique but accessible sound, it’s no surprise that Carl Fox (and band) is heading to Parklife fairly soon.

Another trip inside to catch the wordsmith that is Mathas’ was a pleasure, with more flow than the River Nile, backed by some killer beats, the crowd was treated to a sasquatch adventure.

Back outside Sunshine Brothers were already into their set and the blend of supports came into fruition with their dubby/reggae feel being the final touch to compliment the Brow’s diverse sound.

Sun City setup to finish off the inside stage and smashed out a pretty stellar set, their Electro Indie sounds got the crowds toes moving and ready to dance to the main course – The Brow Horn Orchestra.

Years in the making, The Brow Horn Orchestra are what you call a “hard-working” band.  60 shows under the belt this year alone, this moment has been a long-time coming. Their EP “Can’t Afford this Way of Life” pretty much sums it up for Brow, us….and you. Living to your means and then some, always wanting that little extra…never satisfied. It’s behind the danceable, joyous music that lies these strong messages that lead singer Nic Owen so powerfully delivers so simply and effortlessly.

It’s this hard work and ambition that’s finally paid off for the 8 piece, playing to a sold out 600 large crowd that are there JUST for them.

To be honest, the actual brow performance…was a bit of a blur. At this stage we were a bit worse for wear but we know that it was amazing, because it’s always amazing!
